The Department of Basic Sciences was established in 2011 with the aim of enhancing the relationship between clinical disciplines and basic sciences. The Department is in charge of teaching theoretical and applied courses of basic sciences in subjects as varied as immunology, physiology, nursing information technology, medical information systems, computer application in medical sciences, using medical libraries, biochemistry, nutrition, pharmacology, genetics and anatomy at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral levels. Participating in congresses and conferences, giving lectures, holding workshops, authoring and translating basic science books, publishing papers in ISI-indexed journals as well as advising and supervising students’ dissertations constitute some other activities of this Department.
Objectives
• Having collaboration in teaching the first virtual nursing course
• Being involved in teaching theoretical courses through the distance learning system of the University (25% of the whole course)
• Authoring and publishing papers in prestigious national and international journals
• Involving motivated students in basic science research projects
• Translating and authoring basic science textbooks based on nursing and midwifery students’ curricular needs
• Facilitating the presentation of research projects in different disciplines of basic sciences and applying them clinically
• Maintaining an effective and continual relationship with other Departments of the School especially with regard to doing research projects and students’ dissertations
• Expanding interdisciplinary applied research
• Planning more effective courses in basic sciences
• Attracting projects related to basic sciences thanks to the facilities and devices available at the laboratories of the School of Nursing and Midwifery
• Identifying existing potentials in research based on information technology
