According to public relations of office for International affairs Dr. ArabKheradmand, Dr. Jalili, Dr. Yoonesian ,Dr. Halabchi, vice chancellors for International affairs, educational affairs, research affairs, student affairs, Dr. Nekoofar, director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking, Lee Hammond, ASIC CEO and inspector, Dr. Lawrence Watson, accreditation consultant, and head of ASIC inspectors, Dr. Mirzazadeh, Director of Educational Development Center (EDC), Dr. Amanloo, accreditation representative in management development and resource planning, participated in the meeting which was held on Thursday, May 4th .
At first, Dr. Arabkheradmand, stated that “This is the second meeting held during the past two days of reaccreditation of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), and extensive assessment was performed by ASIC inspectors to assess different units of the university.
Then, Dr. Lawrence presented a report on accomplished assessment and asked some questions which were responded by the audience according to the respective areas of operation.
Dr. Watson appreciated TUMS due to providing required infrastructure to perform electronic assessments. Moreover, he declared that attendance in Internationalization of Higher Education Seminar was a good opportunity for ASIC to get to know the capabilities of TUMS better.
Dr. Watson also gave recommendation on some different aspects of the university. For instance, regarding university involvement in Erasmus Mundus-MARHABA project, he recommended to establish a system for credit transfer to adjust passed courses in host universities with the aim of university promotion.
ASIC team leader also emphasized on improving English and Persian language among national and International students to provide students’ interaction and promote students experiences.
At last, Dr. Watson, informed the audience of an ASIC conference to be hold on October 2017 with the presence of all ASIC accredited universities and educational centers. Furthermore, he noted that the presence of TUMS in this gathering will provide more interaction and an opportunity to enhance collaboration between participating universities.
Following Dr. Lawrence speech, TUMS chancellor, first appreciated the distinguished guests for their presence in university and also in IHE seminar, and then stated that “considering the widespread experiences and views that are presented during this meeting and in line with university progress, we seem to include these views to university action plans”.
Dr. Jafarian continued that issues such as false echo of Iran’s real face in the foreign media have been effective as obstacles for recognizing Iran universities in International arena. He also added TUMS have been utilized all its capacity to overcome these challenges and for instance, one of the achievements for TUMS is its joining to M8 alliance- World Health Summit as the first and the only university in middle east and north Africa.
The university chancellor also informed about TUMS activities for assisting other universities inside Iran in joining to international accreditation arena.
Finally, Dr, Jafarian concluded the presented topics and stated that “fortunately, the reflection which have been received by ASIC inspectors was positive and it seems that there is no obstacle for reaccreditation.
