Oral and maxillofacial radiology is a branch of dentistry which concerns diagnostic imaging in the fields of face and dental structures.
The department of Oral and Maxillofacial radiology has three main goals:
1- Education: Providing basic and advanced courses for under and post graduate students
2- Research: Conducting research projects independently or as under-graduate and post-graduate thesis
3- Treatment: Performing variety of conventional and advanced radiographic procedures and image interpretation
Main Education programs:
Education programs includes:
1. Three theoretical courses for dental students
2. Three practical courses for dental students
4. Three-year practical and theoretical program for post graduate students
Post graduate program of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology residency in TUMS started in 1983 by Dr G. Rahbari and Dr. G.M. Shourjeh.
Clinical activities:
Each day more than 200 conventional and advanced x ray based imaging procedures including intraoral extraoral radiography, CBCT and sialography, are performed in the Department. Images are interpreted by under-graduate and post-graduate students under academic staff supervision.
