The establishment of Department of Surgery was in 1343. The first head of the department was Professor Adl. The Department of Surgery was divided into three subgroups in 1353. Each of them had a separate head. All of them later merged together again in 1357. The department covers four hospitals: Imam-Khomeini, Shariati, Sina, and Amiralam. Currently, the department has 98 faculty members.
About the Department:
TUMS Department of Surgery is the oldest department in the country and region, and it is committed to provide excellent training to students of various fields of surgery. Our department consists of nine sub-specialized divisions offering complex care for a range of diseases requiring surgical treatment.
With more than 100 faculty members and a history of more than 70 years, TUMS Department of Surgery conducts various educational and research programs in various fields of surgery including vascular, cardiothoracic, trauma and critical care, pediatrics, plastic, transplantation, breast, onorectal, and cancer.
Mission and Vision:
The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art, comprehensive care for patients requiring surgery in the region, training qualified surgeons in various fields of surgery, and conducting innovative research programs funded by the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
Our vision is to improve patients' quality of care, train residents and fellows of srugery, and educate the next generations of researchers according to the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education's standards and guideline.
